Facts About Vehicle Storage

by: admin Friday, October 31st, 2008

Cars are expensive and they need to be stored properly to keep them in a working condition for a long time. Keeping them in a garage will only provide them shelter, but there is more to maintaining cars than just sheltering them. They need to be cared for and protected against different environmental agents that can be damaging for them. This is the reason a vehicle storage can be an apt choice for sheltering cars and also for maintaining them in a good condition. The cars should be prepared for the storehouse, before they are sent to it. This will complement the care that they will receive in the storehouses.

The pressure in the tires of the cars should be of the optimum level. If not, the required amount of air should be filled in the tires before the vehicle is sent to the storehouse. Otherwise, flat spots will develop. The car should be cleaned properly. The owners of cars usually do not clean the cars of the dust and grime that they catch when driven regularly. This will negatively affect the health of the cars if they are kept in the vehicle storage without removing the dust and grime. These pollutants will settle on the car permanently and deteriorate the surface layers of the cars.

The inside of the cars should also be cleaned and any residual fuel or any other substances should be drained out.

The vehicles should be cleaned of any remains of acid rains and road salts that they usually gather when driven during the winter months. Before being sent to the vehicle storage they should be waxed. It is also better to check if the constituent parts of the vehicles are functioning properly so that in case any fraudulent activity takes place in the storehouse, the owner can always claim that he has sent his vehicles in a good condition.

The interior of the cars should also be cleaned properly before being sent to the storehouse. It is always better to clean using a vacuum cleaner so that the interior bears a brand new and spotlessly clean look. The area under the seats should be cleaned properly and food wrappers, old newspapers or any other items that are found on the floors of the cars should be removed. Before sending to the storehouses it is always better to remove any decorative items or other accessories from the cars. In the vehicle storage these items may be stolen. It is always better to pack up such items in a separate bag and store them along with the cars. The doors of the cars should be locked properly to ensure security of the cars.

The gas tank of the cars should be filled to prevent or minimize the condensation in the tank.  Antifreeze should be added to prevent the oil in the fuel tank from freezing. A preservative should be added to prevent the formation of gum and varnish in the fuel tank. It is always recommended to go for the best quality preservatives available as many of them that are found nowadays, are not stable. The engine of the cars that are being sent to the vehicle storage should be started once and kept running for about fifteen minutes to enable the fuel to be distributed evenly throughout the fuel system.
