Of course, there’s the basics when choosing a self storage location that you’ve probably already considered like location, square footage, access, etc. Once you have the unit rented, of course, you will want to make the most of it. Remember, every unused foot of space is money wasted.

Below are 13 tips for getting the most out of that self storage unit you are renting… or about to rent. The tips are even broken down into storage layout, furniture tips, and equipment tips.

STORAGE UNIT LAYOUT TIPS

1. Place items you’ll need often at the front.
2. Create a center aisle for access to all items
3. Use pallets or skids to allow air flow around/under items.
4. Climate controlled self storage should be utilized for any items that are sensitive to weather changes.

STORAGE TIPS FOR FURNITURE

5. Treat wood surfaces before storing.

First and foremost, reader, you have to realize that your storage unit is not simply for all of your unwanted belongings.  I mean, you should never be using your self storage unit to store things that you do not want or need.  IF that is what you are doing, then you are quite simply flushing your money down the drain.  Your self storage unit is for the things that you love.  It is for the things that you want to keep in good condition, and the things that you do not think that you could live without.

More to the same point, you should realize that your self storage unit is not just a big, empty room.  Sure, if you want to use it to store some of your spare belongings, then you are not going to run into any problems in that regard.  Of course, if you want to use it to get something else done, then the world is truly your oyster.  Here are a few of the unconventional ways in which you can use your self storage unit (if you are so inclined).

You can use your self storage unit as a warehouse for your online store.  If you are trying to expand your operations, and you would like to keep more of your products in stock, then you are going to want to be sure that you are renting a nice, safe, secure place to keep all of them while you are waiting for them to sell.  Heck, renting a self storage unit might make the difference between your business growing and your business stagnating entirely.

Of course, if you are simply looking for a nice, quiet place to get some work done, then you are not going to be disappointed with a self storage rental.  I mean, so long as you pay your monthly rent, there is not going to be too much of a limitation as far as how you can use your unit is concerned.  Just be sure that you are not violating any of the policies of your self storage property, and you are going to be just fine at the end of the day.

As we say in my family, the world is your oyster if you can think outside of the box for a moment.  I mean, the self storage unit is not a complicated thing, but the number of activities that it can help you with is truly confounding.  If you have never looked into self storage unit before because you do not think that you need one, or if you are simply using yours to store junk that you do not need, then you are going to want to take a serious step back to reconsider things.

The first thing that you are going to have to work on, here, is your approach.  If you find that you are blaming the product for your lack of sales, then you need to drastically rethink your approach.  Perhaps you are coming on too strong?  Perhaps you are freaking out your callers by giving them too much information too quickly?  Maybe you are coming across as shallow, or as only wanting to make the sale.  If you find that you are making any of these mistakes, then you are going to have to work on being a bit more genuine when you are dealing with your customers.  You are going to have to be sure that you are approaching them with a smile, and that they can tell that you are not simply after their money.  If you can step in and convince them that you have the solution to their problem, then they are going to be much more willing to trust you and work with you.

Now, I have said this before, and I am going to say it again.  When your caller begins to talk to you, he or she should be able to tell that you are smiling.  From the very start of the conversation, they should not have a question as to whether or not you want to be on the phone with them.  They should know that you are ready and willing to devote your undivided attention to working with them, and that you are not going to stop until you have found a solution to their problem.  When a customer can sense that you are this devoted to helping them, they are going to be much more willing to flip out the old wallet and send a credit card in your direction.  First, of course, you have to prove to them that you really do care about their situation.

Finally, reader, you are going to have to work on the order in which you surrender your information.  If you are not in control of the phone call from the very start, then you know that you are already in trouble.  Be assertive the whole way through, and do it in such a way that you do not offend your caller.  If they are pulling you away from your script, come up with polite little reasons to return to the order that you prefer.  Before you know it, you are going to have the conversation back on track.

As you can see, reader, there is not much to seeing the improvements that you want to see.  So long as you keep this advice in mind, you are going to be able to drastically improve your sales figures in hardly any time at all.

First and foremost, reader, you are going to want to be sure that you are using plenty of boxes when it comes to packing your belongings.  This is the mistake that most people make when they are in a hurry.  Instead of securing all of their belongings in a way that makes sense, they simply toss all of them into a giant box and hope for the best.  Well, you know what they say, reader: hope is a futile enterprise.  IF you really want to make sure that your belongings are getting from point A to point B successfully, then you are going to have to exercise a certain amount of proactivity.  Pack your belongings in individual boxes, or at least be sure that you are seperating your boxes into partitions.  The main thing, here, is that you make sure that your belongings are not going to smash up against each other when you are moving them around.

Moving on, here, you are going to want to be sure that you are buying some basic moving supplies to keep your boxes safe while they are in transit.  For the insides of your boxes, you are going to have to be sure that you are wrapping all of your belongings in packing paper and bubble wrap.  If you use enough of these, your belongings are going to survive even the nastiest treatment.  Of course, it will help if you use some good packing tape as well.  If you find yourself a nice tape that comes with nylon strips, then your boxes are never going to break open.  Heck, you could even mail them to your new house and you would not have to worry about them breaking open.  I actually did this at one point in time.  I mailed most of my belongings to my new apartment, and I used nylon tape to keep the boxes closed.  I did not have a problem at all.

Finally, reader, you are going to have to be sure that you are securing your belongings well if you know that you are going to be moving them yourself.  IF, for example, you know that you are going to be loading a truck with your belongings and driving them across the city, then you are going to have to be sure that you are securing them with cords before you hit the road.  The last thing that you are going to want, here, is to let all of your belongings slide around and damage each other when you are on the road.

And as you can see, reader, it is not that hard to pack your belongings correctly if you know what you are doing.

The first thing that you are going to want to do, here, is figure out where you are going to want to rent your unit at the end of the day.  The last thing that you are going to want to do, here, is rent a unit that is going to be very far away from where you live.  I mean, if you do that, then you might as well not rent a unit at all.  Just think of all of that time and money that you are going to waste getting to your unit.  Just getting to your unit!  Likewise, imagine how awful it is going to be if you have to make more than one trip to your unit throughout the course of your move.  More than likely, you are going to find that you should have simply rented a unit that is closer to where you live.  Sure, you might have to pay a little bit more for it, but that is hardly going to mean a thing at all when you are saving yourself all of that time.

Second of all, you are going to have to pick a self storage unit that is compatible with your schedule.  Surprisingly, many people seem to forget about that as they are calling around, and they end up landing themselves in a world of hurt at the end of the day.  OF course, you can avoid all of these problems by simply asking your properties what they office hours are, and what their access hours are.  Be sure that you are going to be able to get to your unit during the access hours, and that you are not going to be cutting things too close.  The very last thing that you are going to want, here, is to get yourself stuck inside of the gate after your access hours have ended for the evening.  That is going to be a mess that you are not going to want to deal with; not one bit.

As you can see, reader, there are only a few things that you have to keep in mind when you are calling around to rent a self storage unit.  More often than not, you are going to be able to find a unit in your area that has all of the features and hours that you could ever need.  Just do your homework in the beginning, and you will not live to regret a thing.

First and foremost, reader, you have to be ready and willing to make a few investments if you really want to enjoy your self storage experience.  The first thing that you are going to have to do, here, is be sure that you have purchased a high security lock for your self storage door.  The last thing that you are going to want to do, here, is use a flimsy, standard lock when it comes to your self storage door.  If a criminal should happen to come along and decide to break into your unit, then your standard lock is not going to do you one bit of good.  By equipping your doors with high security disc or cylinder locks, you can rest assured that no crooks are going to be able to find their way into your belongings.

Moving on, here, you are also going to have to be sure that you are renting your self storage unit from a property that comes with all of the security features that you want and need.  While you have already bought a nice, sturdy lock for your door, you are also going to have to be sure that your self storage property is safe as a whole.  That, of course, means that you are go;ing to want to be sure that your property comes equipped with video surveillance cameras, door alarms, and a great access controlled gate.  Beyond all of this, you are also going to have to be sure that you have what is called a live in property manager.  These kinds of managers are going to live on the property itself, meaning that you are never going to have to worry about the safekeeping of your belongings.  Someone is always going to be at the property watching over them, so you will be able to rest easily at night.

Finally, reader, you are always going to have to be sure that you are storing your belongings properly once they are inside of your unit.  This, of course, means that you are going to have to keep them nice and boxed up.  Additionally, it means that you are going to have to be sure that you have packed your belongings in packing paper and bubble wrap.  If you are not taking these extra steps to make sure that your belongings are going to be okay at the end of the day, then you are not going to be able to complain if any harm should come of your belongings.  After all, you had the chance to keep them safe, and you decided that you were not going to go the extra mile.

The first thing that you are going to want to do, here, is make sure that you are reading the classified ads in your local paper.  If a property is trying to rent its self storage units out very quickly, then you might find that they are posting smaller little ads in the classifieds section of the local paper.  Of course, these are units that should always catch your eye, because you are going to be able to save yourself quite a bit of money when you decide to use one of these.  Just be sure that it is going to be able to fit all of your needs, and you are golden.

Moving on, here, you are go;ing to want to be sure that you are checking all of the corporate websites of the companies that are in your local area.  Sure, you can check around on the price aggregators, but a lot of the time, you are going to find that the biggest companies in your area only offer their coupons on their own sites.  Thus, before you begin to call around, you are going to want to be sure that you have checked all of these sites, and that you have printed out the coupons that you have found on them.  Have them in your hands as you call around to get your first round of pricing information.  In my personal experience, I have always found the best specials hosted on these kinds of proprietary websites.

Of course, you are also going to want to be sure that you are checking around for the facilities that have short term leases.  The best way for you to save money, here, is to make sure that you are not commiting yourself to a long stay that you are not going to need.  If you call around and find yourself a month to month lease, then you are not going to have to worry about getting stuck with your unit for longer than you had wanted.  You will be able to rest assured that you are not spending a dime too much on your self storage unit at the end of the day.

Finally, reader, you are always going to want to be sure that you at least stop in at some of the larger aggregate sites.  These sites are going to spend all of their time hunting down deals, so they are a great way to make sure that you have not left any stones unturned, as the saying goes.  You should not base all of your research on these sites, but they are nice to use every now and again.

And there you have it, reader.  Savings are not hard to come by when you know what you are doing.

First and foremost, reader, you are going to have to be sure that you are hiring someone who works well with other people.  Chances are that your property manager is going to be dealing with everything that goes down on your property.  If you need repairs, and you need someone to be there dealing with the repairman, then you are going to have to rely on your property manager.  If you make most of your sales in the front office, rather than over the phone, then you are going to have to be able to rely on your property manager as someone who can close the deal when the time comes.  Of course, the best way to get a feel for whether or not your applicant is going to work well with others is to call him or her in for an interview.  If they do not interview very well, then you might not want to use them as a salesperson or a property manager.

Moving on, here, you are always going to want to be sure that you are hiring someone who has a little bit of experience dealing with your field.  As a self storage property manager, they are going to have to be in charge of handling some money, conducting simple repairs, and helping move people into their units.  Several other fields are going to give your applicants these kinds of experiences, so you are going to want to keep your eyes open for them.  If they have ever worked in property management at ALL, then you are going to want to give them a shot.  Residential property management is a different enterprise, sure, but the experience is highly relevant.  So, too, is restaurant management, though you might not think so at first.  Those who have experience in restaurant management are very used to dealing with people on a face to face basis, and they are also used to the process of responsibly handling money.  So before you write people off of your list, be sure that you are taking their past experience into careful consideration.  You never know when someone is going to break out and really surprise you with their skills.

At the end of the day, it is very important that you pick the right property manager for your position.  If you choose the wrong person, i.e. someone who is not well equipped to handle the work, then the performance of your entire property is going to suffer.  Review your applications carefully, and be sure that you are not forgetting to follow up on any of the promising leads that are coming your way.

First and foremost, reader, you are going to need a central file system for your office.  The last thing that you are going to want to do, here, is rely entirely upon email to communicate with your workers and get them the files that they are going to need to do their jobs well.  When you set up a file server for all of your important documents, you know that your workers are going to be able to get what they need, when they need it.  Likewise, you know that they are going to be able to access these files from home as well, grante4d that you are willing to set up some kind of remote login protocol.  By giving your workers universal access to the documents that they need to do their jobs well, you virtually guarantee that they are going to get better at what they do.

Moving on, here, you are going to want to be sure that you are equipping your workers with computers that do not bog them down.  There is nothing worse than telling a client to wait while your computer chugs away.  Not only is it embarrassing, it is entirely unnecessary.  Sure, you are going to have to spend a few extra dollars to equip your workers with computers that are not terrible, but you are only going to end up thanking yourself in the end.  Your workers will be happy and efficient, and their clients will know that they are equipped with the tools to get the job done, and done well.

Of course, you cannot run a good office without making sure that you are keeping your workers comfortable.  To this effect, you are going to want to be sure that you provide them with comfortable chairs, which, despite what you may think, can make a world of a difference when it comes to morale.  IF you know that your workers are going to be doing a lot of typing, then you might want to be sure that you are getting them some ergonomic keyboards so that they do not injure themselves as they are working.  Likewise, you are going to want to be sure that the special needs of your disabled workers are more than accounted for.  Do what you can to keep your workers happy, and you are going to reap the rewards when it comes to your bottom line.

Truly, reader, it does not take much to turn your office into a much better, much more comfortable, and much more efficient place.  IF you do what you need to do to equip your workers with the tools and accommodations that they need, then you are going to find that they are much more willing to give it their proverbial all.

The first thing that you can do, here, is make sure that you are not giving yourself away from the very start of your conversation with your customer.  In other words, you do not want to come across as a cold, hard salesperson.  To the contrary, you are going to want to make them feel as though you are their friend, and that you are simply trying to help them solve one of their problems by selling them your product.  If you come across as wanting to get into their wallet, then you are not going to make the sale that you are looking to make.  Really, it is just as simple as that.

Second of all, you are going to want to be sure that you sound nice and happy to be on the phone with your caller.  If they do not think that you are happy to help them, then they are not going to end up trusting you enough to spend any money.  And no, I am not advocating that you inspire false confidence in your callers.  I am merely saying that if you want them to trust you, you have to earn it.  Show them that you care, and show them that you are willing to help them find a solution to their problem.  If you can do that, they you are not going to run into many problems when the time comes to ask them for their credit card.

Moving on, here, you are going to want to be sure that you are giving them the best deal that you can.  When they see that you are ready and willing to fight for them when it comes to the cost of your product, they are going to begin to trust you quite a bit more.  It is when you beat around the bush and do not offer them you special until the last minute that you begin to make them angry at you.  And trust me, you do not want to let your conversation get to that point.  The minute that you do, you know that you have lost them for good.

At the end of the day, reader, you are going to make sales the same way that you make friends.  You are going to have to be somewhat persistent, but not off putting.  You are going to need to control conversations without bulldozing.  You are going to have to be able to deliver information strategically.  That much being said, though, if you are ready and willing to do it, then you are not going to run into any problems when it comes to boosting your sales figures.

Normally when you are looking for storage you should find about ten locations that you would want to call. You can find these ten properties that are close to you by looking in the phonebook or by going online and searching an overhead map of your local area. In the world of Maple boat storage you may want to double that and find about twenty places to call. The reason that this would be a good idea is that not all storage locations are going to offer storage of boats. Only about half of them will, so twenty should do the trick. Also, there are two types of Maple boat storage and that is either indoor or outdoor. Keep in mind that some may offer one or the other and not both. In that case, it is good to decide exactly what you are looking for because it can make a huge difference and not only in terms of price.

Obviously, the inside spaces tend to cost a little bit more than the outside spaces. This seems pretty natural. For you extra dollars, you will get increased safety and security and peace of mind that your boat will not be damaged due to high winds or other weather related problems. You will also have less of a chance of something breaking in and vandalizing the boat or stealing smaller items off of it. Now, the outside spaces can be a little cheaper and you can still find outside Maple boat storage that is very safe and secure. You just want to make sure that the site has a pin access controlled gate and security fencing around the property so nobody can sneak on the property. Before renting an outside space, it may be helpful to walk the length of the security fence to make sure that it is one hundred percent in tact. If there are huge holes in the fence, then that would sort of defeat the purpose of the fence.

Also when looking for Maple boat storage you may encounter another type of storage for boats. There are some places that have what are called wet slips and dry slips. Wet slips are where you actually store your boat in the water. Dry slips are sort of like warehouse style storage and they will put the boat in the water upon your request. These examples pretty much cover most of the storage types that you will find as you call around. So get out the phonebook or get online and start shopping. Remember to listen to the manager when you call for prices. They do know what they are talking about.

The first phase of interaction with the customer is during the marketing cycle. In the past, self storage businesses relied upon yellow pages and signage to generate interest from potential customers. Today the Internet has bought a new dynamic to the way in which customers present themselves. Gone are the days when the Internet was just an extension of the company’s brochure. It is now the way a potential customer will judge the efficiency and service provided by the company. The whole presentation needs to educate and then entice the customer into storing with that business.

A key debate in presenting information to the customer on the internet is the way in which a storage business explains the space for rent and at what price. The concept of space is very difficult to explain to customers and therefore it is difficult to relate price to space. Many self storage companies resist announcing prices on their websites and tend to address this issue by encouraging customers to telephone. There is very little evidence as to what is the more successful strategy although the consumer will increasingly demand prices to be displayed over the internet.

Once a customer has made physical contact with a company either on the telephone, in person or by email the following interaction is critical in closing the sale, and the customer taking the space. Each self storage business will have defined how this process is monitored and managed, and will be key to the business’ success.

The next phase is once the customer visits the centre and starts to move in. By this time, the deal with that customer is closed however, referrals in self storage is becoming increasingly important. The reputation of a centre is built up over time and the business is very much influenced by local reputation. Members of staff in the branch need to have a good process for booking in customers, and be looking to sell further products such as insurance and merchandise. It is very much the same as a reception at a hotel, the way in which you are treated helps you form an opinion of that business; a good experience is key to the future success.

In the centre itself it is the attention to detail which is vital. The floors need to be clean and regularly painted. The loading bay needs to be regularly cleaned. Customers should be educated on the do’s and do not’s in the centre. Posters and background music help making the whole environment less stark. Storage centre employees who are helpful and look to meet customer demands are critical in building the reputation of the branch.

Self storage, as an industry, is increasing in competitiveness every year and to win you need to present the right image from first contact through to when a customer leaves. It takes years to build a reputation and minutes to wreck it.

First and foremost, reader, you have to be sure that you are giving yourself enough time to shop around for the unit that is going to suit your needs.  This, I have to say, is the biggest mistake that self storage customers commit.  Thinking that they do not care about the unit that they rent, they only give themselves a few days to shop around.  Lo and behold, they usually end up panicking and renting a unit that is not actually going to suit all of their needs.  Of course, if you want to avoid landing yourself in hot water like this, then you should give yourself a solid two to three weeks to shop around, gather prices, tour sites, and what have you.  You are going to pat yourself on the back at the end of the day when you are sitting in a unit that actually meets your needs.

Of course, I cannot adequately express the importance of taking tours of the properties that you are considering.  If you do not show up and take a look at your property in person, then you are not going to know if you are actually going to feel comfortable with it when it comes to storing your belongings for real.  In these regards, you really have to rely on your proverbial gut to lead you in the right direction.  And it is pretty hard to do that if you have no idea what your property looks like.  Remember, here, that a safe property is going to be maintained well.  If it is not, then you have to question whether or not your property manager really cares about keeping your belongings safe.  And I think that you already know whether or not he cares.

Finally, reader, you always have to be sure that you are taking the time to find all of the discounts that you are going to need to save yourself as much money as possible.  Sure, you can just pay your bill outright, but where is the appeal in that?  I mean, if you really want to get the most bang for your buck, then you are going to call around until you find a very appealing moving special.  If you can land yourself with a great deal, then you can take all of those savings and treat yourself out to something fun.

When it comes down to renting the self storage unit that is going to keep your belongings the safest, you simply have to be sure that you are giving yourself enough time to shop around and compare your local options.

First and foremost, reader, you have to know when your belongings are actually going to call for a climate controlled self storage unit.  While some belonging are going to last just fine in a standard, unregulated environment, others are going to call for a bit of tender love and care.  If, for example, you know that you are going to be storing electronics, wooden furniture, clothing, musical instruments, records, candles, or food items, then you are going to want to be sure that you are paying for a safe, climate controlled self storage unit to keep them in.  Of course, if you are going to be storing chemicals or medicines, then you are going to have to get the consent of your property manager before you begin to fill your unit up with your belongings.

Moving on, here, you are going to want to be sure that you are giving yourself room to access your belongings if you know that you are going to need to in the future.  The temptation is going to be there, reader.  As you are beginning to get tired, you are going to be tempted to just toss all of your belongings into your unit as fast as you possibly can.  Of course, this is not going to leave you with a good way of getting to them at the end of the day.  Unless you are alright with wasting a ton of your time sorting through your belongings, you are going to make sure that you are taking the time to install a few shelves, give yourself rows for access, and the like.

Finally, reader, you are always going to want to be sure that you are storing your belongings in the right boxes, and with all of the right moving and packing supplies.  The last thing that you are going to want to see, here, is a self storage unit full of your broken possessions when you return in a few months.  When you take the time to make sure that you are keeping everything as safe as possible, you know that you are not going to have to worry about returning to a unit that is full of broken junk.

When you do a little bit of homework at the beginning of your self storage situation, you stand to save yourself a lot of stress and heartbreak at the end of the day.  Sure, you are going to have to set a bit more time aside for your shopping process, but that is not going to bother you that much when you finally find the unit that is going to keep your belongings nice and safe while you are gone.

More and more, people are using their self storage units to store their large libraries.  I know that it may sound odd, here, but hear me out, reader.  Essentially, people are renting their units and installing tons of shelves in them.  Once they have installed their shelves, they set them up with their personal libraries, careful to be sure that they have access to all of their individual books.  Much of the time, people use these kinds of units as a sort of library on wheels.  They invite people out to their unit to take a look at their book collections, and you had better believe that they are having a ton of fun doing so.

Of course, if you are looking to use your unit as more of a practice space, then you are not going to be disappointed.  In fact, many local bands are using their self storage units as practice spaces.  Concerned that they are going to have the cops called on them if they do not practice outside of residential areas, these bands have taken it upon themselves to make sure that they are not a nuisance.  Of course, they have to check in with their property managers before they begin to practice in their units, just to be sure that they are not violating any of the policies of the property that they have chosen.  Typically, though, property managers are going to allow for band practice so long as the band in question agrees to a few special rules.

Other people, still, are using their self storage units as extra rooms in their home.  They literally outfit their self storage units with furniture and appliances, treating them very much like a standard apartment.  Of course, they, too, have to check in with their property managers to make sure that they are not in violation of any of the site policies.

At the end of the day, reader, you are going to find that self storage units are actually a lot more versatile than you once thought possible.  So long as you are checking in with your property managers and making sure that you are not violating any of the rules of the site where you rent, then you can essentially do just about anything that you can imagine inside of your unit.  Just keep an open mind, reader, and you are going to be able to figure out a way to make use of a good self storage unit.

Let us break down a few different hobbies, here, and explain how you might execute them safely and responsibly in the various self storage units that are at your local disposal.

Are you a passionate painter?  Are you worried about getting paint all over your house and creating a huge mess?  I know that I am.  I love painting, but I can never seem to pull it off without getting paint all over the place.  While I have been using my back yard for this purpose for several years, now, I cannot say that I enjoy doing so.  When the wind picks up, or when the rain starts to fall, my art is at risk.  So, I set out and rented a self storage unit to use as a studio.  I have equipped the floors and walls with roofing tarps, so
I know that I am not going to leave any stains behind when I am done with my painting.  I know that I do not have to worry about a thing, because I have taken all of the necessary precautions to keep my unit from getting damaged.

Of course, if you hobby requires that you use power tools, then you are going to want to make doubly certain that your property manager is all right with it before you begin to conduct your work inside of your unit.  The last thing that you are going to want, here, is to get evicted from your unit because you failed to follow the basic rules.  Granted that your property manager is all right with your plan, though, you are going to be able to get to work right away.  Just be sure that you are not going to trip the circuit breaker when you plug in all of your tools, and you are not going to run into any major problems, here.

If you are not looking to drop thousands of dollars on a professional practice space, then you are going to want to be sure that you are not forgetting about all of the self storage facilities that are in your local area.  I mean, these units are incredibly versatile once you get all of your equipment moved in.  If you have never even considered these units as practice spaces before, just make a few phone calls and set yourself up with some on site tours of your local properties.  You will not be sorry that you did.

Of course, if you are going to be loading a lot of heavy furniture into your unit, then you might want to consider renting a drive up self storage unit.  These units are ground level, and you are going to be able to pull your car right up to the door.  Typically speaking, you can simply pull your car into, or partially into, the unit, and you will not have to worry about dealing with any long hallways or anything like that.  If I, personally, were going to rent a unit, and I knew that I was going to have to store a ton of heavy furniture, then I would be sure to rent one that was drive up accessible.

If you know that you are going to be storing tons of electronics, then you are going to have to be sure that you are renting a climate controlled self storage unit.  These units, typically speaking, are going to be held between sixty and seventy degrees, meaning that your temperature sensitive items are not going to be harmed by changes in the temperature and humidity.  Computers, televisions, video game consoles, and even clothing items are going to fare much better in these kinds of units.  Though they are going to run you a little bit of extra money, you are going to find that the safety of your belongings is well worth it.

Moving on, here, you are going to want to rent a large, garage size unit if you know that you are going to be storing a vehicle.  Typically speaking, most facilities are going to be able to offer this kind of vehicle storage.  Of course, when you are calling around, you must specify that you are going to be using your unit for vehicle storage.  Some managers do not have the proper insurance to allow this, so by telling them from the get go that you are going to be storing a vehicle, you guarantee that you are not going to get yourself into any trouble.

If you are going to be storing an inventory of items, i.e. your products, then you are going to want to be sure that you rent a self storage unit that comes with shelving supplies.  With these, you are going to be able to sort your products into rows, leaving yourself access to individual items when you need to retrieve them.

These, of course, are but a handful of the options that you are going to have when you set out to rent your self storage unit.  Just specify what you are looking for when you are calling around, and your property managers are going to be able to lead you towards the units that will take care of you the best.

Of course, you are going to want to start your search by looking around your local area for the facilities that are closest to where you live.  Remember, reader, that you are storing items that you may very well need in the future.  This, of course, means that you are not going to want to rent a unit that is very far away from where you live.  I mean, if you do that, then you are going to have to deal with long commute times and wasted gas each and every time that you want to see one of your belongings.  Truly, it is not worth the hassle, reader.  You are better off simply renting something that is close to where you live.

Moving on, you are always going to want to be sure that you are renting a unit that is big enough for your belongings.  If you anticipate needing access to your belongings, then you are going to have to be sure that you are renting a unit that is going to have enough space for you to form isles and have access to your belongings.  The last thing that you are going to want to do, here, is have to climb over a giant pile of boxes each and every time that you need to have access to one of your items.  By installing a few shelves and making sure that you are not blocking your entry, you can look forward to being able to navigate your items with ease.

Finally, reader, you are going to have to be sure that you are labeling your boxes before you place them in your self storage unit.  I mean, sure, you can get away with not labeling them,  but that essentially means that you are going to have to waste a ton of your time when you are looking around for a particular item.  By proactively labeling your belongings, you can guarantee that you are not going to have to waste all of your time trying to track them down in the future.

When it comes to cleaning up your house, reader, you are going to find that renting a self storage unit can really make your chores a heck of a lot easier.  Just remember, here, that you are going to want to rent a unit that is not going to be a huge hassle at the end of the day.  If you can manage to keep all of this advice in your mind as you are shopping around, then you are not going to run into any problems at all.

For a short while it was condemned - deemed not suitable for living. It's never a good situation. The tenants are unhappy.......

First and foremost, reader, you are going to have to be sure that you are only renting self storage units from facilities that allow for you to take an on site tour before you sign your paperwork.  Simply put, if your self storage facility is not willing to let you see your unit before you rent it, then they are trying to hide something.  You would never put up with this kind of trickery if you were buying something else, so why in the world would you put up with it when you are renting a self storage unit?  Just take it from me, reader, you are going to want to be sure that you check your unit out in person before you commit to renting it.  It simply makes sense that way.

Moving on, here, you are going to want to be sure that your self storage unit comes equipped with all of the security features that you want and need.  The last thing in the world that you are going to want, here, is to spend your money on a unit that is not going to be able to keep your belongings nice and safe.  To this effect, you are going to want to be sure that you are renting a self storage unit that comes equipped with video surveillance cameras, door alarms, a secure door lock, and a fence around the perimeter of the facility.  If you do not rent a unit that comes equipped with these features, then you are going to grow to regret it over time.  Truly, you are not going to be able to rest assured that your belongings are safe.  And truly, that is the worst feeling in the world, reader.  When you do not know that your belongings are being kept safe, you experience a tremendous amount of stress.  I do, at least.

Finally, reader, you are going to have to be sure that you are renting a unit that is in a nice, low crime area.  Sure, self storage units are going to be nice and safe when they are equipped with all of those security features, but that does not mean that you are going to want to take your chances by renting one that is not in a good neighborhood.  If you do not feel comfortable when you go to visit your belongings, then you are never going to be happy with the self storage unit that you rent.  It is just as simple as that.

Before you commit yourself to renting a self storage unit, be sure that you are happy with every facet of the rental.  Take care of yourself early on, and you are going to be just fine when it comes to renting your self storage unit.

First and foremost, reader, you are going to have to be sure that you have a way of keeping your belongings from sliding around when they are in the back of the truck that you have rented.  Sure, a rental truck is going to be much safer than your standard vehicle when it comes to moving your furniture, but that does not mean that you are not going to want to take some special precautions.  Here, you are going to want to be sure that you are buying straps to secure your largest, heaviest items to the sides of your moving truck.  The last thing that you are going to want, here, is to let one of your large items slide around, as it is going to pose a huge threat to your belongings when it is moving around.  Of course, if you want to stay as safe as possible, then you are going to wrap your larger items in foam padding before you strap them down, just in case they happen to break free.

Moving on, here, you are also going to want to be sure that you are hiring all of the help that you are going to need to move your belongings safely.  Sure, you can try to muscle everything into your moving truck by yourself, but you might very well end up dropping your items and harming them.  This is a very silly path to adopt, especially considering that you are going to be able to hire help for relatively cheap.  If your moving budget is not huge, simply call around to your local college students and see if you can find a few who are willing to move your items for you.  Always be sure that they have health insurance, of course, and be sure that you have them sign a release stating that you are not responsible for any accidents that occur.  I mean, you have to take care of yourself when you are letting strangers onto your property to handle your belongings.  You simply cannot leave yourself open to getting sued when it comes to hiring moving help.  If you would like to avoid this issue altogether, then you are free to call a professional moving company.  Their workers are going to have insurance for sure.

At the end of the day, moving your belongings does not have to be a dangerous process.  You do not have to break any of them if you choose not to.  Just be sure that you are securing them well, and that you are getting all of the physical help that you are going to need.

First and foremost, reader, you are usually going to want to be sure that you are renting a climate controlled self storage unit.  Unless you live in a remarkably temperate area, the changes in temperature and humidity are going to have a profound affect upon the integrity of your personal belongings.  Clothes are going to develop strange odors when they are left in an unregulated unit for too long.  Electronics are going to flat out break.  Delicate wooden items and musical instruments are going to warp and buckle when they are not kept in a safe threshold of temperatures.  Unless you are willing to risk running into these problems, then you are going to want to be sure that you are proactively renting a climate controlled self storage unit.

Of course, you are also going to want to be sure that you are packing your belongings with care.  This, of course, means that you are going to want to be sure that you are purchasing all of the supplies that you need before you head out to rent a self storage unit.  In these regards, you are going to want to be sure that you buy some nice, sturdy boxes for your smaller belongings.  You are also going to want to be sure that you are buying all of the packing supplies that you are going to need, such as packing paper and bubble wrap.  If you do not take the time to buy these sorts of items, then you are not going to be able to rest assured that your belongings are going to stay safe when they are in your self storage unit.

Finally, reader, you are going to have to be sure that you are checking out the reviews of your local self storage facilities before you commit to renting a unit.  The last thing that you are going to want, here, is to rent a self storage unit that is not going to make you happy at the end of the day.  If you rent from a company that has a terrible reputation, then you are not going to be too happy at the end of the day.  And worst of all is that you are only going to have yourself to blame at that point.

Keep your belongings safe, reader, because if you do not, then you are going to be kicking yourself in the butt at the end of the day.  By taking care of things early on, you can rest assured that you are not going to have to deal with any major pains in the neck.
